First-time Oscar Nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee is a Rising Star

ICM Partners client Kodi Smit-McPhee has been nominated for his first Oscar and we look forward to seeing where this takes him. The 25 year old South Australian actor has been nominated for his role as the unassuming, creative stepson of a Montana rancher in “The Power of the Dog.” Although Kodi has appeared in several films and has been on the receiving end of critical attention prior to his Oscar nod, viewers may not know much about the actor and how he got to where he is, but seeing the trajectory he’s on, we know his days of staying under the radar are quickly coming to an end.

In an interview with The Guardian Kodi addresses the confidence he’s gained throughout his journey. “My dad has always been my coach and my mentor,” says Kodi. “We are so close. But he’s 6ft 6in, he’s got a goatee, he has ridden with outlaw motorcycle clubs most of his life. As I started to approach adolescence, I wondered when I was going to bloom into this masculine thing. Do I have to go to the gym? Do I have to speak a different way? One day there was a bit of a breakthrough and I realized I don’t have to be any of that. I’m an ectomorph. I’m interested in philosophy. I’m an artist, and that’s beautiful.”

Kodi recently wrapped on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, an biographical musical drama about Elvis Presley, and he will soon begin filming a limited series for Apple, written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Cate Blanchett & Kevin Kline.

Congratulations to ICM Partners’ rising star who’s burning brighter with every move he makes.
