Shondaland’s “Bridgerton” Makes a Royal Debut on Netflix
Shona Rhimes debut series for Netflix is an international hit! According to the streaming giant, the Shondaland series is projected to reach 63 million households within 28 days of its Christmas Day debut. That makes it the fifth-largest Netflix original series launch of all time. The show has also reached the number one spot on Netflix’s top 10 rankings in 76 countries and is a Top 10 show in 189 of Netflix’s 190 countries. Starring Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton, co-executive produced by Jonathan Igla and with luscious costume design by Ellen Mirojnick, the Regency era period drama toys with race relations and gender norms in unique ways that creates an alternative history separating Bridgerton from similar series. “The most interesting departure is the racial integration of the nobility, explained midway through the eight-episode season as an accident of history and love,” said the New York Times’ critic James Poniewozik in reference to the diverse nobility in the show.
Behind-the-scenes, ICM Partners’ client and costume designer Ellen Mirojnick has been widely celebrated for her work. According to IndieWire’s Ann Donahue, the handmade dresses, lavish accessories, and bejeweled accouterments are “reason alone to watch the show.”
Bridgerton has staked its claim as Netflix’s fifth-biggest original series launch ever. ICM Partners is proud to see so many of our clients collaborating on this innovative series. Congratulations to everyone involved!
